WHAT HAPPENS IF A STUDENT DOES NOT MEET THE LITERACY AND NUMERACY STANDARD?
Students who do not reach the minimum standard of Band 8 in Year 9 will have sufficient time with their teachers and the school to work on strategies and measures to improve their performance between Year 9 and when they complete the HSC.
The online literacy and numeracy tests will be available for students to sit up to twice a year in Years 10, 11 and 12 and for up to five years after starting the HSC if required.
If a student meets the minimum standard of literacy and numeracy in one area, they will not need to sit that area again. For example, if a student meets the minimum standard in the online reading and writing tests in Year 10 but not in numeracy, they will only need to sit the online numeracy test until they meet the minimum numeracy standard.
