International Students

We welcome International students to Arthur Phillip High. Our International Students co-ordinators Ms Vance and Ms Karnib ensure each student has appropriate curriculum patterns and ESL support.

International Students are supported in their transition into Arthur Phillip High School through our Welcome Program. This program ensures students experience a successful transition and covers the following areas:
  • a tour of the school where students are introduced to key staff members and "buddies" who can provide peer support
  • an outline of high school expectations including behaviour, learning in the classroom, uniform, homework and assessment tasks
  • time management strategies
  • good study habits including preparing for assessment tasks and exams
  • short and long term goals and possible educational pathways
  • resilience and strategies to support emotional wellbeing.

International Students are also given access to our after school Senior ESL Homework Centre that provides additional language support for our students. The Senior ESL Homework Centre is on twice a week with qualified Math and English/ESL teachers to assist students with the completion of homework and assessment tasks.

An International Student Morning Tea is held to welcome students to the school and to give students the opportunity to meet with their teachers and the Principal, to develop friendship groups and to discuss their transition into our school.

The International Student co-ordinators meet regularly with International Students to discuss High School experiences and arrange access to appropriate support structures. Our International Students are encouraged to become active members of their school community. Our school facilitates many programs to encourage students to make positive friendship groups, develop their confidence, become role models and leaders for their peers and showcase their talents. Some of the many programs and events offered at APHS include:
  • Peer Support/Mentoring program
  • Performing Arts Night
  • Sporting, debating and public speaking competitions.

Arthur Phillip’s year 12 International Students work extremely hard to prepare for the HSC exams. Many of our Year 12 International Students have received academic awards.
